Light, in this context, often includes invisible forms of radiation such as ultraviolet, infrared, gamma rays, and X-rays and this is in addition to a visible light.

The basis of optoelectronics is the quantum mechanical effects of light on semiconducting materials and this is sometimes in the presence of electrical fields. Often erroneously used as a synonym, electro optics is branch of physics dealing with all interactions between light and electric fields.
