Meter Reading
The technology responsible in the collection of data from water meter or energy meter devices like water, gas, or electric refers to automatic meter reading, or AMR. This technology also employs the transfer of data to a central database for billing and/or analysing. One advantage of this technology lies on the fact that the employee need not travel thus trips are saved since the billing can be based on actual consumption rather than on an estimate based on previous consumption. With this, the consumers are benefited in such a way that they can have control of their use of electric energy, gas usage, or water consumption. AMR technologies come in different types like hand-held meter reading, mobile, and network technologies based on telephony platforms (wired and wireless), radio frequency (RF), or power line transmission.
