Digital

Digital systems on the other hand utilise discrete (discontinuous) values. It is not always symbolised numerically thus the term “digital” and this represents information for input, processing, transmission, storage, etc. The information represented can be either discrete, such as letters, numbers, and icons or continuous, such as sounds, images, and other continuous measurements. The term digital is commonly associated with computing and electronics, especially with reference to a real-world information that is being converted to binary numeric form as in digital photography, digital audio, etc. Such data-carrying signals carry electronic or optical pulses, the amplitude of each of which represents a logical 1 (pulse present and/or high) or a logical 0 (pulse absent and/or low).
